Oil and VOC treatment in metal drum manufacturing

An Italian company specialized in the production of metal drums needed to replace obsolete technologies (a washing tower and bag filters) previously used to remove oil and VOCs from the drying and curing ovens involved in the post-painting treatment process. These systems were no longer able to meet emission standards, resulting in odor problems that were disturbing the surrounding area.

oil and voc treatment in metal drum manufacturing

Problems

  • Improve the quality of both indoor and outdoor environments
  • Reduce management and maintenance costs
  • Pollutants to be treated: VOCs, resin, oil mist, and unpleasant odors from painting processes

Technical features THERMAL OXIDIZER

  • Airflow: 35.000 Nm3/h
  • Maximum VOC concentration: 250 mg/Nm3
  • Average inlet temperature: 110 °C
  • Maximum inlet temperature: 130 °C
  • Minimum combustion chamber temperature: 830 °C
  • Maximum combustion chamber temperature: 900 °C
Solutions

We proposed a solution to the client consisting of two systems: a MCOS coalescence filter, which acts as a pre-separator to optimize the removal of oil mist and resins during the drying process, and a thermal oxidizer for odor elimination. Additionally, the system includes a PLC for remote control and efficient process management.

Advantages
  • Optimization of energy consumption through heat recovery via an air/water heat exchanger, reducing operating costs.
  • Increased efficiency of the air filtration system, with lower emissions.
  • Improved air quality both inside and outside the work environment.
  • Reduction of conflicts with the neighborhood thanks to compliance with emission standards.
