Oil mist treatment in the production of taps and fittings

In this case study, we present a project carried out in northern France for a manufacturer of taps and fittings. During the hot stamping process, the customer uses an oil containing graphite as a release agent, generating a complex pollutant composed of oil mist mixed with solid residues. A previous installation made by a competitor with inadequate technology was unable to handle this type of pollutant properly, causing serious filtration problems.

oil mist treatment in the production of taps and fittings

Problems

  • Use of inappropriate technology
  • Combined presence of oil mist and solid graphite residues
  • Persistent smoke in the work environment
  • Filter cartridges clogged in less than two weeks
  • Failure of the filtration unit with smoke released inside the facility

HF Solution

  • Airflow rate: 3,000 m3/h
  • N. of suction points: 1 machine with 3 capture points
  • Fan motor: 1 x 7.5 kW
  • Installation: outdoor
  • Piping supply: included
Solutions

HF provided a tailor-made system designed to handle the specific pollutant. The solution includes a unit with a dual-stage pre-filtration, coalescence candle filters, and a final HEPA H13 filter, along with an external stack, a seasonal bypass for optimized airflow, and the HF Monitoring system for continuous delta P control. The four filtration stages are:

1°: Pre-filtration with metal mesh

2°: Pre-filtration with bag filters

3°: Filtration with coalescence candle filters

4°: Final filtration with HEPA H13 filter

Advantages
  • Tailor-made solution for a complex pollutant
  • System reliability and durability
  • Significant reduction of smoke presence inside the facility
