VOC treatment in the waste management sector

HFiltration collaborated with a major company in Piedmont operating in the waste storage and treatment sector, working at one of its facilities located in Casale Monferrato. The management of organic waste and sludge generated a high concentration of odorous VOCs and ammonia in the air, making it necessary to implement an efficient extraction and filtration system capable of meeting the authorized limit of 20 mg/m³.

Problems

  • Presence of odorous VOCs and ammonia.
  • Accumulation of dust generated by waste treatment.
  • Need to ensure three air changes per hour with an airflow of 48,000 m³/h.
  • Request for efficient, low-maintenance solutions.
  • Seven waste containers with diffuse emissions.

Technical features of the filtration system:

  • No. 1 Cartridge pre-filter: model PC24TSXL
  • No. 1 Activated carbon filter (10 tons)
  • No. 1 Ground-mounted fan: 48,000 m³/h – pressure 395 mm
  • No. 1 Electrical panel: 75 kW
  • No. 1 HF Monitoring system
  • No. 1 Chimney
  • Pipe line: 80 m
Solutions

We designed and installed a complete filtration system consisting of a Pulsatron Compact filter and a high-capacity activated carbon filter, ensuring high pollutant removal efficiency and simplified maintenance management. The system was integrated with the HF Monitoring package. Despite competition from other suppliers, our proposal proved to be the most advantageous thanks to its build quality, optimal contact time between carbon and VOCs, and superior overall system efficiency.

Advantages

Cleaner air and a safer working environment thanks to the efficient removal of VOCs and ammonia. The system ensures high performance with reduced maintenance costs and continuous monitoring through HFMonitoring, guaranteeing operational continuity and compliance with environmental standards.
